An Open Letter to Lava

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Dear Lava,

I love you.  I know it has taken me a long to say it, but it’s true.  Volcanoes are cool because you made them cool.  I tried to imagine a world where different things were produced from volcanoes.  Even when I imagined a fantasy land where volcanoes shower sleepy island villages with piping hot tacos from the earth’s core, I had to admit that on the coolness scale, you were still superior.  I can never dream of anything that could possibly compare to you.

You even have the ability, on occasion, to make uncool people a little bit cooler.  Anakin Skywalker was really annoying, but when he met you he turned into the much cooler Darth Vader.

Lava, you’re the best.

Sincerely,

Mike Carp

Getting to know your mutant robot

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Lately I’ve been continuing to sketch a robot with a divers helmet as seen in last week’s post. I hadn’t really looked at the original drawing, and I was actually surprised that the new drawings feature a slimmer bot. I guess that’s not really important; what is important is that the robot has a hose attached to his head that never ends. I’m sure people have had to come up with various solutions to deal with an inexplicable length of hose that’s draped across the landscape somewhere.
